[ The feed switches on and the first thing you'd see is the close up face of a Cyndaquil, making noises and moving its little arms at the screen until a voice pops in. ]

Axel, what are you doing? [ A pause, and the PokeGear is picked up, moving to show Xion next. She's propped against a wall, most likely sitting on something, but the thing that could be noticeable on her is the gauze pad covering most of her left cheek. She blinks at the screen, then looks back down where the Cyndaquil would be. ]

I guess I should show a bit of my progress... [ There's an affirmative chirp before she fully turns her attention to the PokeGear. ] I finally arrived at Cherrygrove. I'm in a PokeCenter right now.

[ She pauses as she presses a button on her Gear. ] It's still a little while before I get to Violet... [ And she does have to wait for Cecil. ] But we'll get there.

[ Axel is making more noise, almost as though it wants more attention, and Xion smiles slightly, turning to him. ] We made some progress, didn't we? [ Then she turns the screen to show her Cyndaquil waving happily, his flames a bit bigger and brighter on his back. ]

No. I was trying to defend Axel.

[ Surprisingly little glaring! In fact, it's more like...confusion. Because seriously, what. ]

Against what?

A group of bird Pokemon, I think. [ Didn't get a chance to whip out her PokeDex to tell them that they were a flock of wild Pidgeys, but hey. ]

He can breathe fire, you know. You're more help to him on the sidelines.

He only started breathing fire. I still didn't want him to go through it alone. [ Xion would otherwise feel useless if she's standing by and only giving orders. And while that is how the way things are, Xion can't really help herself. ]

[ She looks and sounds so much like Kairi, he actually has to remind himself that he's only just me her. Still, he shakes his head at her. ]

He'll get strong soon enough, and the better you get at strategy, the more you'll keep him out of danger.

[ It must be boggling his mind about that. ]

Strategy... Like what you told me before about types?

[ She catches on quick. He likes that. ]

Exactly. Learn more, and he'll get hurt less in battle.

[ That is a good incentive, and if she's sending him into battle, she might as well be smart about it. ]

Then what are birds... [ No, wait, he said it earlier. ] Flying types weak to?

[ He lists them off his fingers: ]

Rock, Ice, and Electric-types are all strong against Flying-types. But sometimes pokemon have two types, and that changes their weaknesses.

[ Derp. This gets complicated, so he won't add any more until she asks for it. ]

[ She's making mental notes, but does, indeed, pause at the dual types part. ]

Two types?

Skarmory is Steel/Flying, remember? So she's not weak to Rock or Ice, but she is weak to Fire.

[ Well, that made sense in her head. Steel melts under heat. But the Flying part... ] Would she also be weak to Electric? Since she's Flying.

[ He nods again, the edges of his lips softening. She really does catch on quickly. ]

Yes, exactly. Steel isn't resistant to Electric, so it doesn't cancel out the weakness from Flying.

[ Leon should totally take Xion under his wing for some super Pokemon battle training. Or something. Her own eyes light up in realization of all this, and for getting something right. ]

Still, she must be very sturdy. [ From what she remembers from seeing his Skarmory that one time. A metal bird. ]

Steel-types generally are. Skarmory has two weaknesses, but nine resistances and two immunities.

[ Proud? Maybe. Also yesss, +1 little sister GET ]

Resistances and immunities?

[ At least he isn't linefacing her as much as Kairi told her he might be, so... +1 big brother, GET! He'll be like Axel, but more serious. ]

[ Fffff this is like KH all over again HERE, DERPY PROTAG, THIS IS FIGHTING except lol it's pokemon. ]

A resistance is the opposite of a weakness; attacks from a type your pokemon resists won't be as effective. Fire-types are resistant to Grass, and Steel-types are resistant to... [ bad example fff ] ...well, lots of things.

Immunities are exactly what they sound like; there aren't many, though.

[ Mental notes, mental notes! At least she's curious about all this, and she knows she has to learn this sooner or later, or she'd do something stupid. Again. ]

Do you just know what type a Pokemon is?

Most of the time it's obvious--other times you can just use your pokegear.

[ Nods in understanding. PokeGear, why you so useful? Then she looks down at Axel, who's waving his little arms, and wonders. ]

Depending on their type... are they just limited to only using abilities of the same type?

Not necessarily. They can learn all sorts of attacks, but attacks of their own type will be more effective.

Hm... [ Glances at Axel again. ] I only have a Fire type... [ She figured those red and white balls that look similar to the one Axel popped out of had something to do with catching more, but... derp, no one taught her how to properly catch them. ]

It's easy to catch more, if you need it.
