Are the Kanto Gyms really difficult?

Not necessarily, but we can request to fight full teams at the highest level instead of their usual ones. That gives them the advantage over Johto.

Oh, wait, so they'd have level 100s and a full, six-party?

Yes, but only if you deliberately request it. They have weaker teams that are closer to Johto's in level. They'll use those if you say nothing.

Hmm. I think, once I'm finished with Johto's badges... Well, I'll have hit the max level anyway. It wouldn't be much of a challenge, then, huh?

It would not. However, I believe you could also decide to earn a few badges in Kanto before finishing Johto. The weaker teams would be a good option in that case.

I could do that, yeah. And then it's just... waiting for the Elite Four to be available, then?

That seems a bit strange. They sound pretty famous and important, so you'd think we'd hear something abou them.
