[ She's been contemplating this, yes, ever since she got her ass handed back to her by Vanitas. She's lost, sure, many times in fact... but this one in particular... ]

How... when do you know you're strong? That you're not weak?

[ She might end that last sentence in a bitter hiss. Sure, she's lost, but when it involves her friends (and Pokemon), it becomes another thing. She couldn't beat Vanitas, came out even more battered, and well aware her appearance would worry friends. So lately she's been hanging around the roof of Goldenrod City's Department Store.

It sounds like she's going to say more, but whatever it is dissolves into a sigh and stops. ]

... Did you. [ which is what he was certainly going to do. ah, you reckless children. ] Where are you at the moment, Xion?

[ She pauses. She noticed he dropped the "Miss" part. That's... some kind of sign? He'd likely get the answer out of her anyway, somehow. ]

The roof of Goldenrod's Department Store.

A moment, then. [ and he says nothing else when he hangs up!

and, just like that, someone will be coming up to the roof of the goldenrod department store. jade'll approach xion's side as quietly as he can, hands in his pockets, before he speaks: ]

Observing the view, are we?

[ She turns to look up at him, sporting a cast on her right forearm, a black eye, and a bunch of other bandages that aren't covered by her clothing. ]

It's soothing.

So it is. [ a small silence, as he watches all the little people down below, walking along their merry way. after this he eyes her injuries, noting them all down mentally in his mind. it wasn't what he was expecting--he was expecting less, but also worse at the same time.

is he relieved? well, relieved wasn't a word for it. ] I assume you had some reason for deciding to fight seriously. [ not that it's his business, but it's a good way to shift into the topic. ]

[ She gives a nod, blankly watching the horizon ahead. ]

I... wanted to know why my friend had to fight him. Then we started arguing.

And your loss brought about this line of questioning? I see. [ those injuries aren't from a small squabble either. must've either been a pretty big issue or a pretty big jerk. perhaps both.

he's not really sure what to say to make xion feel better, but he's standing here anyway. ]

Yeah. [ She looks back up at him. He's a pretty tall dude, so she feels smaller against him. ]

Um... do you want to sit?

Perhaps. [ but he'll do that sitting down thing, since he figures his looming over xion isn't helping matters. it's times like these he'd like a cup of tea, but he'll settle for looking at goldenrod.

he looks a little longer before the turns to xion. ] The person responsible?

[ She turns to him when he asks that, then lowers her head a bit. ]

His name's Vanitas. [ She gets the feeling he might not know about him. ]

. . . I see. [ he's keeping that name in mind. "Vanitas" made the most terrible first impression, really. ] And you have an acquaintance outside of Johto?

Acquaintance? [ Pauses. ] It sounds like he's come from my world, but I never met before, and... [ He looks so much like Sora. ]

[ . . . . ] And?

He looks like... [ She turns to him. ] Were you at the Tournament? Did you see a boy named Sora? [ Who so eerily had the same fighting stance as Xion's? ]

[ he had noticed that, but failed to mention it. well. he was more of the quiet analyser, anyway.

which is why the fact that vanitas looks like sora who shares similar characteristics with "sora" is more than a little suspicious. ]

I recall someone like that. [ he beyond recalls, but that's details. ]

He looked like him, but with black hair and gold eyes. I thought I could give him the benefit of the doubt, he didn't give me any reason to hate him...

[ Ah, too naive, Xion. Next time, though... ]

It'll be different.

[ that naivety. persistence. he shouldn't be surprised to hear that for xion, even with this kind of outcome, "next time" was still an option. he doesn't doubt her abilities, since. he has confidence in them, but.

vanitas just seemed to be a bit of a risky thing to poke. ]

I hope you'll, at the very least, go in more prepared. [ and not next week or something, but jade trusts xion has better judgment than that. ]

[ Her gaze turns toward Goldenrod again. Even with the limited vision of her left eye, Goldenrod looked rather reminiscent of Twilight Town a bit in this light. ]

Yeah. What should I do? [ She turns to him again. To get stronger... Jade had this air about him that he isn't one to lose easily. Someone strong. ]

A number of things. [ he shrugs, crossing his legs. ] Formal training. More experience. An analysis of his fighting style. Most importantly, making sure your personal feelings do not cloud your judgement. [ because with these sincere types, that always seems to be one of the main problems. ]

I would avoid confrontation with Vanitas until you're certain that you've made some improvement.

[ She makes a small noise at that second to last bit of advice from him. Her emotions... ]

I don't know about... formal training. Everyone seems to think it's weird that I'm holding a giant key.

[ and that sound is all jade needed to hear for confirmation. ]

There are stranger weapons out there. [ like puppets and dist's ugly robots, but that was a story for another time. ]

So what kind of formal training is there?

Endurance, parrying. For all intents and purposes, a soldier's training.

Something you had? [ A pause as she thinks about it. ] Actually, it kind of sounds like Lightning's training.

[ Name dropping Cool Big Sis/Team Mom, holla! ]

Indeed. [ nod. and oh, look, xion knows more soldiers. that's helpful indeed. ] I don't believe I've met her. Has she been teaching you?
