This might not... Ah, how do I ask this? Lately there have been disappearances, but there have also been reappearances, and--

[ Hello, Johto. The feed snaps on showing a Garchomp and a Typhlosion curled up almost contentedly in a circle around their small trainer like sleeping guard dogs. She's sitting against the body of her resting Garchomp, one hand holding the Gear while the other holds a pencil against her chin in thought. Deciding she can't really put her question any other way, she goes: ]

If you could give yourself notes if... if you disappear and come back to Johto, but with no memories, what could you tell yourself? What's worth remembering?

[ She tilts her head to the side, silently hoping she isn't bothering people with this sort of question, but it's been nagging her mind for a while. She continues to jot down a few more notes, quietly muttering some of them: ]

You know who you are. You're Xion. Xion. [ Scratch, scratch goes the pencil. ] You... have a Cyndaquil named Axel. You got-- oh!

[ Xion puts the pencil down for a moment and sifts through her pocket and pulls this little trinket up. ]

You can win if you just try.

Notes to Myself

You started with a Pokemon called a Cyndaquil. You named him Axel. There's also Bell, a Togekiss now, who you retrieved from Sora when you were first here. It's complicated.
Roxas is here. Namine is here. Roxas knows about who you are and what you are. He's still your best friend. Namine is also your best friend.
You've made lots of friends: Lightning, Leon, Cecil, Sora (yeah, he's here!), Riku, Ventus, Minnie, Fang, Lancer, Saber, Talim, Kari, Rangiku, Atsuro... and many more. And the people that disappear. Please don't forget them. It'd be kind of ironic that be would, huh?

That was the same with me, but... I still felt bad. This is mostly for my own reasons, I guess.

Bad..? Why would you feel bad about it?

Most people... Well, no one wants to be forgotten, especially by close friends. It's something I learned from back home.

And what if you wish to be forgotten?

Then that would make things really sad.

What if things were really sad... because you were remembered?

... Then I'd hope they find happier memories, to make it less sad. There, but not forgotten. It's... experience.

[ Pause. ]

I wouldn't want to forget that you're my friend, Saber.

There are no happier memories for the past... all I can do is hope that I can erase myself and be replaced by a king truly worthy of the support of that beautiful country. [ Johto was different at least. ] That was why I fought so brashly... I wanted to win that mystical artifact so badly.

Are you talking about that War you and Lancer were in?

No... I speak of the reason I had to fight in that war for. [ A sigh escapes her lips. ] How do I even begin to explain...

[ Eventually though, she does find the courage to recap this for Xion. ~~Minus all of Shirou's crappy realizations.~~ ]

That is why... why I wish to be forgotten. I thought if I acquired the Holy Grail that I could have made a wish for a better king for Britain and that I could have just never existed.

[ Xion is quiet all throughout Saber's story, listening intently, and trying to imagine what is being said. She's even more silent afterwards, a sort of... blank look on her face. She clenches a hand over heart. It hurts for her friend, but... ]

... so you want to forget the people that mattered to you? It's what would happen if you were forgotten, if you didn't exist. You can't just... You can't just throw that all away!

[ Now she's somehow shouting. ] You could have a chance! You could be saved!

[ Funny this gets a reaction out of her more than anything else in this world. Xion calms down, realizing how she's sounding, and silently simmers. ]

... You don't want to experience being forgotten.

Forget the people that mattered... No, that is not something I want, but if it is a necessary cost to do what is right, then it is one I will go through with. Because that is what you do when you love something so dearly. If it is what is necessary to protect the people I served for, then I would go through with it.

[ That's what it meant to withdraw that blessed blade. ]

I had my chance and I failed at it. All I can do is move forward and continue to look for a way to make things right. Even if the Holy Grail is corrupted, there must be some other solution out there that I could work for. All I can do is continue to look for a way to give Britain the proper king...

I met him, you know. [ Her head rolls slightly on her shoulder as the lazily looks at the PokeGear in hand. ] The Arthur from Merlin's world. He was insufferable, yet I could see it in his eyes. He would become a righteous king.

You met the one you thought would be the replacement? [ Pause. ] Then why would you still want wish? I don't get it. I...

At one point, I would have agreed with you, Saber. I really would.

[ It's odd. They really were alike in some ways. ]

Because I could see him leading Britain to prosperity. Even if I disagreed with some of his views, he had a good heart and a strong body. He would fight just as valiantly as myself and he would triumph over evil. He could conquer poverty and make the country prosperous.

And he... he does not keep his opinions to himself easily. My fault as a king was that I was without emotion, but this Arthur had plenty of it to show. Merlin told me once that the two of us were so different, that we both had our own strengths and weaknesses, but he was too blind to see. [ She chokes back a sob. ] That this Arthur is everything I aim to be.

If he exists, then... wouldn't that mean your wish was fulfilled? To an extent.

[ And after a bit of a long pause here, Xion lets out the thought that's been nagging at her since she heard Saber's story: ]

... We really are sort of alike.

To an extent, but if he exists, then should I no longer exist? [ Silly timey wimey. ] It pains me to hear that for no other man or woman should be as burdened as I.

Maybe it doesn't need for you to be gone. Maybe you can co-exist, somehow, peacefully.

[ Pause... Filter up? ]

Maybe I'm not really burdened anymore, at least in here. Maybe. [ She's still iffy on that, but one thing's for sure: ] I mean, before coming here, I died.

Co-exist somehow..? No, that is impossible for us. King Arthur is the Forever King after all.

[ A small frown. ]

You are dead as well..? No, that cannot be right.

Well, I meant... Maybe it's that alternate universe thing we keep hearing about sometimes? You're both the Forever King in your own universes.

... but how can it not be right? It has to b- no, it is the right path. The path that I chose.

Even though I knew I would be forgotten, even though the moments I spent with my best friends won't be remembered by them, I still followed this path... for them. Like how you did for the people you care for, Saber.

[ Xion knows she's making a huge gamble by telling Saber all of this, but, she really trusts the other woman. Even her voice is steady and calm in her deliverance, having already accepted her fate. ]

No, for the Forever King is always there, resting in Avalon after his passing. I know how my end happens and it is far away from Avalon, so I know that I am not the Forever King. In the end, I somehow manage to be successful with my wish. It is just a matter of when.

[ The path she chose. Saber's not sure if she believes that to be the right one or not. It would be cruel to think of any path as the right one that lead to a young girl dying. Even if it was the same way Saber handled her own life. No, Saber did that so that others wouldn't have to give up their lives. ]

Xion... That is so sad to hear. Even if it is the right path, it is still a painful one to burden on your shoulders.

... I guess it is, then. So long as your wish is fulfilled somehow.

[ She bows her head when Saber tells her that. Did age or gender really matter in situations like this? At the very least, Saber accomplished far more than Xion could ever, so... ]

Please don't be sad, Saber. I think you've had enough sadness for a lifetime... maybe two. [ She tries a small smile. ] And, well... you're the only one that really knows this far about my past, but at the very least, we both know we're not alone in all of this... right?

That is right. Here we have been blessed with a second life, so we must make the best of it as we can. It would be an insult to all that we have sacrificed if we do not try to live through our second chance happily.

Mmm, yes. That is how I view it at least. What do you think, Xion?

I... just want my friends to be safe and happy. But you are right on that, Saber.

At the very least, I'm with them. I can't ask for anything more.

That is right. Now let us focus on the good instead of our pasts and move forward.

[ Blinks! ] If you're sure on that, okay.
